Corissa moved about the bedroom, ignoring Dianthe's worried thoughts. She was fine; she was pregnant, not an invalid. She just wanted to collect all of their wish stars from where they'd gotten scattered about the room. If she collected them into jars then they'd be able to keep them safe all year.
She swept the pile on the window sill into her mostly filled jar then had to stop to catch her breath. A sharp pain struck, low in her belly, and she set the jar down as gently as she could before moving her hands to her stomach. She breathed in and out, riding through the pain. It subsided after a few moments, and she breathed a sigh of relief. She stood at the window to make sure the spell had passed when the pain returned. Corissa shook her head at the water Guy offered her and then immediately regretted that decision as her stomach heaved from even that slight movement. Her mother had said the sickness would taper off after a few months, although she'd seen it continue through the entire pregnancy before. She knew she was at least two and a half months along, probably pushing closer to three, and it didn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
As much as she hated the sickness, the sudden aversion to many things she loved, she could never regret what was growing inside her. She could consider it a punishment for being with Guy before they were married, take it as a sign that yes, she had sinned before, but she already treasured the child that would come in a few more months. The child she and Guy had made together. The child that would be the living proof of their love. That was the thought that got her through the mornings, through the hours she spe
